How to Prepare for Your Headshot
Before the Shoot
In the days leading up to your session, drink plenty of water and avoid greasy foods. Plan your wardrobe early—get items dry cleaned or pressed if needed. The night before, try to get a good night’s sleep. It really makes a difference.
What to Wear
Wear what best reflects your professional role or the image you want to project. Bring a few options—we can decide together what works best.
Keep patterns simple and avoid anything too busy.
Textures and layers photograph well, but the focus should stay on your face.
If you’re not comfortable in it, don’t wear it.
Avoid bright white shirts (they can wash out on camera). Blues—especially navy—tend to look great.
Make sure your clothing is clean and wrinkle-free: ironed, steamed, or dry cleaned.
Bring layers like a blazer or jacket to add variety.
Even though shoes won’t show, dressing head-to-toe professionally often helps you feel more confident.
Jewelry
Keep it minimal. Simple studs or a small necklace are perfect. Large or dangling pieces can be distracting.
Hair & Makeup
If you’ve booked one of our professional makeup artists, you’re in great hands—they’ll know exactly how to get you photo-ready.
Doing your own makeup?
Aim for a polished, natural version of your everyday look.
Matte makeup photographs better than shimmery makeup.
Even skin tone is key—foundation or concealer helps with redness or blemishes.
Neutral lip colors work best; avoid anything too glossy.
Doing your own hair?
Style it the way you’d wear it on your best day at work—nothing too different from your normal look.
Smooth flyaways with light hairspray, gel, or serum.
Avoid heavy products that make hair look greasy under lights.
If you’re prone to flat hair, a bit of volume at the roots helps.
Bring a brush or comb for quick touch-ups at the studio.
Facial Hair (Men)
Come with the level of facial hair that best represents how you want to look. If you prefer to shave right before, bring what you need. Some people arrive with stubble and shave before the shoot—that works too.
Glasses & Grooming
If you normally wear glasses, bring them (and make sure they’re clean). If you have multiple pairs, bring options.
Trim beards, sideburns, eyebrows, or nose hairs before the session.
Final Touches
Lip balm helps with dry lips.
Blotting papers or powder reduce shine under the lights.
Relax—I’ll guide you through posing and expression so you look your best.
